Farmers Market

Every once in awhile I try to make it out to the farmers market after my workouts on Saturday mornings. There's one close to my house and I can easily just make a quick stop. This week I changed it up and tried a farmers market that's known for good deals and gorgeous produce...Caninos Farmers Market. I brought $20 and my grocery bags and headed out. This is not the best pic of me. Fresh from my workout with no make-up, my squinty eyes and flashing a cheesy grin :D

The market is divided into 2 sections. The front is somewhat indoors with cashiers that take credit cards. You can also buy goods like tortillas, pickles, salad dressings, etc...

The back section is outside and has individual vendors. Each vendor displays their produce and for dollar or two you can take a basket of this or that.
Everything is done in cash and you pay the vendor directly.

In the end I spent $12. Some items got spilt between me and my girlfriends. All in all, I thought it was a pretty good experience and I would definetly shop there again.

Here's to a happy and healthy day!

Cold Food Cravings

For the most part, I haven't had and crazy cravings. No pickles and ice cream or bananas dipped in BBQ sauce. I once saw a show where the pregnant lady craved chalk. Yikes! I can't even imagine. My preggo tastes are actually somewhat norm, but I noticed that I seem to prefer cold foods...sanwiches, salads, fruits, veggies, and smoothies. I especially go through fruit like there's no tomorrow. We once went through 7 cantalopes in a week!

Smoothies are one of my absolute favs right now. I started out buying them, but realized it was more economical for me to make my own. Plus I know exactly what's in my smoothies if I make them myself. Here is my all natural smoothie how-to...

Here's what you need:
•1 large container of organic strawberries
•4 ripe organic bananas
•organic vanilla yogurt
•6 ziploc sandwich baggies

Using a mini muffin pan, I scoop 1 tbsp of yogurt in each cup and throw it in the freezer. It should freeze fairly quickly (maybe in 15-20 minutes). Once frozen, you'll have 24 mini frozen yogurt discs. Keep in the freezer until you are ready to make your baggies. Slice your strawberries and bananas. Each baggie should contain aprox 4-5 strawberries, 1/2 banana, and 4 frozen yogurt discs. Lay each baggie flat and freeze. Laying it flat will keep it from freezing in one big icy chunk.

When you're ready to have your smoothie, you just throw the contents of the baggie and 1 cup of milk (I use organic 2%) in a blender. You can add a shot of honey if you need some extra sweetness. And there you go... Yummy smoothies for the week. I'm not a milk drinker, so this has been a great way for me to get a good dose of calcium.

So before I sign off today, I want to congratulate Lemondrop Marie on her good news! You look so cute in your vintage maternity wear!

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy day!

Gray Day and Sunny Food

The weather is yuck! Gray skies inspired my gray outfit.

•black short sleeve - Target
•gray pleated top - Banana Republic
•jeans - Target
•shoe boots - Payless
•long gray pearl necklace - Charming Charlie's

For the last week or so I was recovering from the flu. Yep, it was a little souvenir from my trip to Mexico. So cooking hasn't really been on my agenda for the last couple of weeks. Neither has the gym. I really have fallen off the wagon! I'm trying to get back on track though. For lunch, I tried Diet Gourmet for the first time. I got one of those GroupOn coupons so we can get $50 worth of food for the price of $25. I had a chicken/lean beef burger with lettuce, tomato, jalepenos, and salsa. It was served with a little mexican salad, a small orange, and a cherry berry dessert. All that for only 338 calories! We will definetly be going back.

Now I just need to get back to the gym. Tonight I plan on it being a cardio night.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Brown necklace - Target

Spring is right around the corner and I've decided that it's time to lift the shopping ban. Just in case you wanted to join me in a little spring shopping, here are some coupons to take advantage of...

JoAnn Fabrics - In case you want to make your next outfit or accessory, here is their coupon commotion

And if you are wanting to have a movie night at home tomorrow, check out Redbox's blog for a free movie rental code. The code will be posted on Wednesday and good for only that day. Enjoy!

I've been slacking on logging my food lately. Not sure what my deal is, but I need to get back on track. I must have been lacking iron in my diet because I really wanted beef and spinach, so here's what I ended up with for lunch.

This fajita salad + 3 oz of fresh raspberries for dessert was a total of 292 calories.

Here's how I did on the activity level. I didn't walk to work today so got my workout at the park. I walked for a mile and jogged for about 2 miles. The 54 minute loop around the park burned 456 calories. While the weather is nice and the humidity is tolerable, I am going to try to do 3 miles twice a week. Tomorrow is a rest day, but a walk to work is a must...

I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy day! Thanks for coming by :-)
